CHURCH SQUARE MASTER PLAN, Bethlehem, PA
The Church Square Master Plan project is adjacent to the heart of Lehigh University’s campus. Encompassing a city block, this project repositions an existing abandoned majestic church and other contributing buildings, with respectfully interwoven new development. Re-established as ‘Church Square‘, this block revives the area into a college town community amenity. The mixed-use program connects loft-style residences with activated open space, new street facing retail, restaurants, cafes, and the adaptive reuse of the existing church into an art gallery. Residential lobbies are knitted into the block through intimate courtyard entrances alongside a through-block alley connector adjacent to the church. Together this creates a variety of scaled open spaces that hosts outdoor lounges and dining offerings. Combined with a new street scape, the project unites urban living with a re-energized public realm.
